Aamir Khan Muttaki was born on 7 March 1970 in Zargun village of Nad Ali district of Hilmand province. His father’s name was Haji Nadir Khan. Muttaki is originally from Paktia province, but his family later moved to Hilmand.
According to reports, Aamir Khan Muttaki received his early education in the mosque of his own village. From here he started studying Islamic and traditional religious knowledge. At that time, there was a period of political instability and conflict in Afghanistan, but Muttaki’s studies continued.
Asylum and education in Pakistan
Reports suggest that his family had to leave the country after the communist rule in Afghanistan and the Soviet invasion in 1979. At the age of just 9, Aamir Khan Muttaki went to Pakistan. There he studied in religious schools built for Afghan refugees. In these madrassas he received education in Quran, Hadith, Fiqh and other Islamic subjects. Gradually he became adept in religious education and became recognized as a knowledgeable person in his community.
Reports suggest that Muttaki took part in the fight against the Soviet-backed government. He actively participated in the ongoing conflict in Helmand province. After the fall of Dr. Najibullah’s government, Muttaki started completing his incomplete studies.

Aamir Khan Muttaki is not only a religious scholar but also an experienced diplomat. He participated in international negotiations several times on the instructions of Taliban founder Mullah Omar.
