Ever since US President Donald Trump announced 50 percent tariff on India, relations between the two countries had derailed. However, now warmth is being seen once again in those relationships. Trump is praising India and PM Modi in front of Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Meanwhile, a big update has come out on the trade deal between India and the US.
Trump, who was nominated to negotiate a trade deal with India, has held a meeting with Indian officials, which has proved to be quite useful. According to the report of news agency ANI, sources said that India’s negotiation team is currently in America. They are trying to see if we can find a solution that is win-win for both parties. The source said, ‘India’s exports to America have increased and this may continue. 45 percent of exports are still out of tariff coverage.
An Indian delegation will go to America
This week an Indian delegation will go to America to negotiate a trade deal so that it can be expedited. Last month, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal led a delegation to New York, after which both sides agreed to accelerate talks towards a mutually beneficial trade agreement.
America on back foot after tariff
A report by the Global Trade Research Institute (GTRI) indicated that Washington is keen to rapidly pursue a bilateral agreement with India. According to the report, due to China’s control over rare earth minerals and the increase in US-China trade war, Washington has been forced to rethink its strategy with its allies.
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal will join the Indian delegation in the US for trade talks on Thursday (October 16, 2025). During this period, India has indicated to increase energy imports from America. The purchase of energy, mainly crude oil, from America has declined from $25 billion to about $12-13 billion in the last seven-eight years.
