Pew’s recently released survey was conducted among 42,151 adults from 36 countries and regions from February 8 to May 13, 2026. It was revealed that in many places the good opinion about China has reached record levels. At the same time, people’s opinion about America has deteriorated. In 25 out of these 36 countries, people said that their opinion about China is better than that of America.
Apart from this, it was learned from the people involved in the survey that they had a good opinion about every superpower. To some extent it is good and to some extent it is bad or very bad. These countries include countries like Spain, Indonesia, Italy, Greece and Canada. People’s attitude towards China has changed in these countries.
This means that people of America’s neighbors Canada and Mexico also take China more positively than America. Apart from these, there are 6 countries which take America positively. These include Poland, Philippines, South Korea, India, Japan and Israel. However, all these countries are either old partners, or allies of each other.
Good opinion about America has declined in many countries
Apart from this, a trend of Pew has shown that in recent years, the good opinion about America has decreased in many countries. Good opinion about China has increased. Middle-income countries are maintaining a more positive attitude towards China, while there is still doubt about China in rich countries. The best rating for China has come from the Pacific and developing countries of Asia. These include Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria and Türkiye. This is a good image of China.
At the same time, some high-income countries of Europe and Asia Pacific have a negative outlook towards China. These countries are not even thinking much about America. Here, Singapore’s positive inclination towards China has also been seen.

Who is most trustworthy between Jinping and Trump?
Apart from the countries, opinions were also taken in the survey about the rulers of both the nations. It also compares the trust in Xi Jinping and Donald Trump. It has been found that overall trust between the two leaders is low. In most countries the trust score for both the leaders is less than 50 percent. This reflects widespread skepticism over his international decision-making methods. Despite this, in most countries, more confidence has been expressed in Xi than in Trump. In 22 out of 36 countries and regions surveyed, people’s opinion of Xi is better than that of Trump. These include Canada, Mexico and big European countries like France, Germany, United Kingdom. However, the highest rating of trust on Xi has come from Pakistan. About 83 percent people have supported Xi Jinping. At the same time, in Japan, the least 7 percent trust has been expressed in Xi.
There has also been a lot of difference in Trump’s ratings. He got the highest rating of 68 percent from the Philippines. At the same time, only 4 percent was received from the West Bank and East Jerusalem. In many countries, especially in Europe, no leader has received majority support. Still, Xi is far ahead of Trump.
What is the opinion of Indians regarding both the countries?
In this matter, when Indians were asked who has influenced them the most between America and China, the people of India have put their side in favor of America. 45 percent of Indians have described themselves as influenced by America. At the same time, 23 percent has been given to China. Apart from this, 25 percent Indians have expressed trust in Xi Jinping, while 39 percent Indians have expressed trust in US President Donald Trump.
America is better than China in personal freedom
However, at one place America has been considered better than China. That is respect for personal freedom. Apart from this, questions were also raised on the foreign policy roles of both the countries. These included many Latin American and middle-income countries. On these, people considered America a more reliable partner than China. Recent results have shown that now people’s opinion is divided.
When a question was asked about interference in other countries, 75 percent of the people said that America interferes in the affairs of other countries too much or to a great extent. Whereas regarding China, only 45 percent people believe that China plays a role in interfering in the policies of any country.
