India’s star Olympic athlete Neeraj Chopra on Wednesday got the rank of ‘Lieutenant Colonel’ in the Indian Army. Neeraj was given this honor for his great achievements in sports and inspiring the youth. He was given this post in Delhi in the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. Let us tell you that Neeraj Chopra had entered the Indian Army in 2016 as Naib Subedar. He was promoted in 2021, after which he got the post of Subedar.
According to The Gazette of India, this appointment became effective from April 16. In 2016, he joined the Indian Army and was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2018 for his consistent performance in athletics. Three years later, he created history by winning the gold medal in men’s javelin throw in the Tokyo Olympics. With this one victory, he inspired millions of youth of India and in 2021 he was awarded the Khel Ratna.
Neeraj Chopra’s contribution to Indian athletics has been incomparable. When the year 2022 came, he received the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, which is the highest peacetime honor given by the Indian Army. Amidst all these achievements, due to Neeraj Chopra, there was a wave of athletics and javelin throw in India.
