For the first time, after the violence that took place last month on September 24, 2025 in Leh district of the Union Territory of Ladakh, the Union Home Ministry has held talks with the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA). Union Home Ministry officials met with members of LAB and KDA in Leh on Wednesday (October 22, 2025). Talks between the two sides lasted for about three hours in Leh. In which many issues were seriously discussed.

Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance said that the talks with Union Home Ministry officials were very positive. In the meeting that lasted for about three hours, the government listened carefully to our demands and also assured to consider them seriously. Along with this, the government has also been assured by us that we will not take any such step in the state, which is wrong in the eyes of the government and administration.

Three members each of Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance participated in the meeting held with Home Ministry officials. Along with this, Ladakh MP and KDA founder Mohammad Hanifa Jaan and his lawyer also attended the meeting.

What issues were discussed in the meeting

LAB and KDA said that the main objective of this meeting with the officials was to provide full statehood to Ladakh and constitutional protection under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. Apart from this, we demanded the removal of the National Security Act (NSA) imposed against environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk and her immediate release from jail. We have also reiterated our demand for the release of the youth who were imprisoned by the Ladakh Police after the violence on 24th September.

Curfew lifted in Leh, situation becomes normal

Meanwhile, Leh Deputy Commissioner Romil Singh Donk said that the situation in the district has now become normal. The curfew has been lifted and the internet has also been restored. Schools and colleges are also opening as before. However, Section 163 of BNSS is still applicable.
