For the youth across the country whose dream is to serve the country by becoming Agniveer in the Indian Army, a very good news is coming for them. Till now, only 25% of the Agniveers were included in the army permanently, but soon there is a proposal to increase this number to 75%. That means earlier only 25 out of 100 Agniveers used to get permanent jobs, now 75 out of 100 will be guaranteed a permanent career.

This major change is included in the agenda of the Army Commanders’ Conference that started from Thursday in Jaisalmer. In this conference, measures to increase coordination and unity between the three forces Army, Navy and Air Force will also be discussed. Apart from this, review of the implementation of ‘Mission Sudarshan Chakra’ is also included in the major issues in this meeting.

Proposal to increase retention of firefighters

According to reports, the first batch of Agniveers will complete their four-year tenure next year. Keeping this in mind, it has been proposed in this meeting that the current 25% retention should be increased to 75%. This simply means that the youth will get the opportunity to serve in the army for a long time, and their career will get stability.

This conference of army commanders is the first major conference to be organized after Operation Sindoor in May. This meeting provides a platform to the senior leadership of the Army to review the overall security situation of the country and take strategic decisions to deal with the emerging challenges.

Experience of ex-servicemen will be useful

The increasing number of ex-servicemen and options to effectively utilize their experience will also be discussed in the meeting. Presently ex-servicemen are working in limited roles, such as Army Welfare Education Society and ECHS Polyclinics. But in this meeting it will also be considered that they should be widely included in various structures.

Measures to increase coordination between the three armies

In the meeting, measures to increase cooperation and solidarity between the three armies, Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, will also be considered. Under this, issues like repair and replacement of damaged equipment, emergency procurement of critical stores, and safe stocking of ammunition for weapon systems will also be discussed.

Measures to promote better coordination with other services and stakeholders under Mission Sudarshan Chakra will also be discussed. This meeting is part of the second Army Commanders Conference of the year. The first phase was held in Delhi earlier this month.
