Ireland won the series by winning the second T20 against India last Sunday (28 June). This was the first time that Ireland won a series against Team India in any format. Now after this historic victory, Ireland got a big shock. The team’s head coach Heinrich Malan decided to resign before the end of the contract.
Malan’s contract was till the beginning of 2027, but he decided to leave the post before that. The Ireland Cricket Board announced on Monday (June 29) that Heinrich was stepping down as head coach of the men’s team.

Henrik Malan was a successful coach
45 year old Henrique Malan was given the responsibility of head coach in 2022. He worked on this post for more than 4 years. Under his coaching, Ireland achieved many successes, the biggest success of which was winning the T20 series against India. Apart from this, the team qualified for the T20 World Cup three consecutive times. Ireland’s first three Test wins also came under coach Heinrich.

What did Henrik Malan say?
Henrique Malan said, “It has been a huge honor to work with these players, staff and the Irish cricket community. I and my family had a wonderful experience living here and we will look back fondly on our time associated with Irish cricket.”
He further added, “On the field, we can proudly recall many historic wins like the historic T20 World Cup win against England in Melbourne, the first Test win against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, the first home Test win against Zimbabwe in Belfast, historic wins in the home T20 series against India and defeats against Pakistan, West Indies and South Africa. This coupled with our consistent ability to challenge and defeat the world’s top teams has led us to qualify for the T20 World Cup. Qualifying directly was also a big achievement for us.”
