‘Bangladesh is going through a deep crisis, hope Eid will give strength to overcome it’, said Sheikh Hasina

Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, while wishing the countrymen on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, said that this time the festival has come at a time when the people of Bangladesh are going through deep crisis and difficult times. Awami League shared his message on social media platform X. In which the former PM expressed regret over the ‘pain and suffering’ of the people.

Sheikh Hasina said, ‘In the last 21 months, party leaders and workers have faced continuous violence, attacks and false cases, while many people are still in jail. Not only political workers, but common people are also facing huge difficulties.

He expressed concern over the death of children, increasing violence against women and children, deteriorating law and order and weakening economy. He further wrote, ‘Hundreds of children are dying due to measles, the era of barbaric violence is continuing and women and girls are being raped, the condition of law and order is bad and the economy has put the country in the doldrums.’

In his message, he said that Eid-ul-Azha gives the message of sacrifice and dedication and expressed hope that this spirit will give people the strength to move forward in these difficult times. Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Even in this adverse situation, this festival gives us the strength to follow the path of truth and be ready to make necessary sacrifices in the interest of the country.’

Awami League had recently alleged that attacks on people associated with the party are increasing continuously and an atmosphere of violence is prevailing in many parts of the country. The party says that crimes against women and children have also increased, due to which the feeling of insecurity among the people is deepening. According to Awami League, the ground reality is that any person who has done no wrong and is associated with our party remains the target. The incidents of violence are continuously increasing.

Earlier this month, the party had claimed that this year too, like in 2025, there has been an increase in violent incidents against women and children. This was linked to the failure of the government. Alleging widespread institutional failure behind the violence, the Awami League said, ‘This is no longer just a ‘women’s issue’. This is a sign of decline in governance, justice system and moral character of the country.
