BCCI made mega plan, number of matches will increase in IPL; Know how many matches a team will play

IPL is now moving towards becoming the biggest league in the world. From the year 2028, the Indian Premier League will be played on an even bigger level. According to a report by India Today, the number of matches and time duration of the tournament is going to increase in IPL. In the 2028 season, the number of matches may increase to 94 and the tournament may be played in double round robin format.

According to India Today, IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal says that the number of matches may increase from the 2028 season, but the number of teams will remain only 10. Let us tell you that the last time the Indian Premier League was expanded in the year 2022, when the number of teams increased from 8 to 10 with the arrival of Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.

Currently, 74 matches are played in the entire IPL season, if it is increased to 94 then each team will face each other twice in the league stage. Even when there were eight teams in the league, it was played in double round robin format. If this happens, each team will play 18 matches in the season.

IPL will run for two and a half months

In the current format, the IPL season ends within 60-65 days. If the number of matches increases to 94 then the season will last for about two and a half months. Arun Singh Dhumal said that the schedule of all bilateral series is fixed till 2027, after which the time period of IPL can be extended.

Whereas in the current format, when almost half of the matches in the IPL season are completed, then a decline of 15-20 percent is seen in the viewership, because the fans start finding the equations of the points table boring. But according to the new update, with the introduction of double round robin format, the points table can be prepared like football leagues. At the same time, increasing the number of teams will not be considered, because it will not be possible to organize a tournament of 12 teams in the time of 2 to 2.5 months.
