The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is striving for the growth of Test cricket. It is reported that BCCI has prepared a special plan to promote the red ball format. Major decisions are also likely to be taken on Under-19 and Under-25 level cricket. According to media reports, Center of Excellence Director VVS Laxman and his team will also focus more on red ball cricket.
According to reports, India’s Under-19 and Under-25 team is going to tour Sri Lanka for the Test match series. India’s Under-19 team has recently won the Under-19 World Cup title under the captaincy of Ayush Mhatre. Vaibhav Suryavanshi can also be seen playing in this test series.
BCCI will organize a big tournament
BCCI’s Center of Excellence is going to organize Intra-COE tournament in the months of June and July this year. Meaning, a lot of red ball cricket will be played right after the conclusion of IPL 2026. 4-day matches will be played in this tournament. Its objective is to prepare such superstar players for the Test format, who can represent Team India in the future.
It is being told that 64 young cricketers can be seen playing in this tournament. The age of all these 64 players will be less than 25 years. VVS Laxman, Head of Cricket, Center of Excellence, will play a key role in finding the talent that will play in this intra-COE tournament. According to the report, a message has also been sent to the national selectors and coaches to prepare new superstar players for the Test format.
This update has come at a time when the Indian Test team seems to be struggling. In the last 5 Test series, Team India has been able to register victory only once. Team India is currently at sixth place in the points table of WTC and the path to reach the final is now looking very difficult for them.
