What were the allegations against Lalit Modi?
Actually, the second season of IPL (IPL 2009) was played in the hosting of South Africa. He was accused of getting the IPL held in South Africa instead of India for his personal gain. But he said that due to the Lok Sabha elections, it was not possible to organize the tournament in India.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had alleged that an amount of about Rs 250 crore was sent abroad without the permission of the Reserve Bank of India. ED had made allegations of taking money from companies based in UK and manipulation in foreign exchange. In 2018, a fine of Rs 10.65 crore was imposed on Lalit Modi. In response to this, Lalit Modi said that the decisions were taken collectively. He had not done any personal transaction.
Appellate Tribunal canceled the fines
The Appellate Tribunal is a special quasi-judicial body, which has canceled most of the penalties of the Enforcement Directorate. Reacting to this decision, he said that the truth for which he had been waiting for 16 years has finally been approved by the court.
