This time a big change has been seen in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, which is counted among the toughest examinations in the country. Ending the long wait of lakhs of candidates, Union Public Service Commission i.e. UPSC has for the first time released the Answer Key of CSE Prelims 2026 before the result. This decision has started a new discussion among the students preparing for the examination.
More than 8 lakh candidates appeared in the UPSC Prelims examination held across the country on May 24. Students had reached the examination centers with the dream of joining big services like IAS, IPS and IFS. Like always, after the completion of the examination, this time also the unofficial answer keys of coaching institutes started circulating on social media, but now UPSC itself has given a big relief to the candidates by releasing the official answer key.
UPSC method changed for the first time
Till now, the tradition of UPSC was that the final answer key was released only after the entire examination process was over. That means candidates had to wait for months to know their right and wrong answers. But this time the Commission made a big change and released the Provisional Answer Key immediately after Prelims.
This step is being considered as one of the biggest procedural reforms of UPSC. With this, candidates will now be able to get an accurate idea of their preparation without any delay and will be able to start preparing for the main examination quickly.
Candidates will now be able to lodge objections
Not only releasing the answer key, UPSC has also given an opportunity to the students to lodge objections. For this, the Commission has started a special “Question Paper Representation Portal”. If a candidate feels that the answer to any question has been given wrong, then he can lodge an objection on it. Along with this, candidates will also have to provide necessary evidence and information in support of their claim.

How to check answer key
- First of all go to the official website of UPSC upsc.gov.in
- Go to “What’s New” section on the homepage
- Click on UPSC CSE Answer Key link there
- Now select the answer key of GS Paper 1 and GS Paper 2
- PDF will open on the screen
- Download it and save it for future
2072 examination centers built across the country
This time UPSC Prelims exam was conducted in 83 cities of the country. According to the Commission, a total of 2072 examination centers were created. About 8.19 lakh candidates had applied for the examination, out of which about 67 percent students appeared in the examination.
Maximum number of candidates appeared for the exam in Delhi. More than 70 thousand students reached here at 144 centres. After this, Hyderabad and Patna came next. Whereas in Kargil of Ladakh, the least number of 98 candidates appeared for the exam.
