Wi-Fi Router: In today’s time, Wi-Fi Router has become a necessity for almost every home and office. Many people keep it running 24 hours so that internet service remains available continuously. In recent years, there have been reports of incidents like fire or blast in air conditioners (ACs), after which a question arises in people’s minds whether a Wi-Fi router can also explode in the same way? The answer is yes, but its probability is very less. Nevertheless, under some circumstances, problems like overheating, short circuit or fire may arise in the router.
Why can a router be dangerous?
There are many electronic components and a power adapter inside the Wi-Fi Router. These parts may become hot due to continuous power supply and prolonged use. If the quality of the device is poor, the power supply is unstable or the ventilation is not proper then the risk can increase.
However, Router does not have a big compressor unit or high-power system like AC, hence the possibility of a big blast is very less. But excessive heat can cause smoke, melting or fire.
Overheating is the biggest reason
People often keep the router behind the TV, in a closed cupboard or on top of other electronic devices. Due to this, hot air is not able to come out and the temperature of the device starts increasing. If the router feels very hot to touch, the internet gets disconnected repeatedly or there is a burning smell, then this could be a warning sign.
Risk increases due to cheap adapters and fake accessories
Many times, when the original power adapter gets damaged, people start using cheap or local chargers. Wrong voltage or poor quality adapter can cause short circuit. Experts advise to always use the original adapter provided by the company and replace the damaged cable immediately.
Follow these measures to stay safe
- Keep the router in an open and ventilated place.
- Do not place any heavy object on it.
- Use a surge protector to protect yourself from power fluctuations.
- Keep cleaning the dust from time to time.
- Replace an old router or damaged adapter.
- If you are going out of the house for a long time, you can turn off the router.
