Expressing objection over the results of West Bengal elections, TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee said that her losing candidates were forcefully defeated as part of a conspiracy. He held the Election Commission, West Bengal Police, CRPF and the Chief Electoral Officer responsible for this. He alleged that more than 1500 offices of his party were captured.

Dismiss me, I will not resign: Mamata Banerjee

According to the report of news agency ANI, Mamata Banerjee said in the meeting with the newly elected MLAs of TMC, ‘After Bengal, now the team of INDIA alliance is united. I will not resign. Even if they fire me. I want this to be a dark day. We have to stay strong. All TMC MLAs should wear black clothes on the first day of the assembly. Those who have cheated will be expelled from the party. I am laughing. I have defeated them morally. I am a free bird. I have worked for everyone. We may have lost, but we will fight.

Election Commission’s responsibility to stop violence: TMC

TMC spokesperson and MLA Kunal Ghosh said, ‘It is the responsibility of the Election Commission to stop the violence. What BJP had said and what is happening on the ground is exactly the opposite. The violence that is taking place is not good for democracy. Mamata Banerjee not resigning is a symbolic protest against the looting of seats by BJP. We have asked Didi to decide on all these things, who will be the LoP or how our party will go in the assembly, we will do as she tells. Process of government formation begins in Bengal

After the assembly election results in West Bengal, the constitutional process of government formation has started. Outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has refused to resign and has raised questions on the mandate. State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Aggarwal clarified on Wednesday (6 May 2026) that the role of the Election Commission is limited only to conducting elections and notifying the results, the further process is completely under the Constitution.
