US President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that world leaders tell him that America has currently become the most attractive and powerful country in the world. Trump says that now everyone wants to invest in America, wants to come here and America is in a stronger position than ever before, but Pew Research Center’s 2026 Global Attitude Survey released on Tuesday has presented a different picture. According to this survey, trust in Trump has decreased significantly in many countries of the world. Only 23 percent people in the survey said that they have confidence in Trump’s leadership ability in global affairs.
Pew Research Center has been monitoring America’s image in the world and people’s opinion towards it for the last 20 years. In this survey, Trump has received a weak rating on almost every major issue of foreign policy. 74 percent of people from 36 countries surveyed said that they did not like Trump’s way of handling the Iran issue.

Trump’s tariff policy
Resentment was also seen in many countries of the world regarding Trump’s tariff policy. Especially in those countries which have big trade relations with America. Only 27% people in the UK considered Trump’s trade policy right. In India this figure was 18 percent. 17 percent people in Canada, 15 percent in Japan, 14 percent in South Korea, 11 percent in Mexico and only 8 percent in Germany supported it. While America got the highest 81 percent favorable rating in Israel, America’s image remains relatively better in African countries too, but the trust in Trump has decreased in India. While 51 percent Indians had confidence in Trump in 2025, it dropped to 39 percent in 2026.
America’s position in Canada
The biggest decline in trust in America was seen in Canada. Since 2022, the number of people around the world considering America a reliable ally has decreased rapidly. This decline was very sharp in Canada. During Biden’s tenure, 83 percent of Canadians trusted America, but now this figure has come down to 35 percent. Trump’s image has also weakened in Europe. In countries like France, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands and Italy, about three-fourths or more of the people had a negative opinion about Trump. The level of trust in Germany fell from 83% to 39%. In Sweden it came down from 83 percent to 31 percent.
Trump’s domestic statistics are not good
Interestingly, Trump’s domestic numbers also don’t look very good. According to Net Silver’s polling average, Trump’s net approval has reached 18.9. This is a worse situation than the same period of his first term. In a survey, Trump’s approval was said to be only 30 percent, which is considered to be the lowest level till date. Only 26 percent people are satisfied with Trump’s work in handling the economy, while 70 percent people expressed dissatisfaction. America is still the largest economy in the world. Its military strength and global alliances also remain strong. Many countries still rely on American power and resources, but the Pew survey clearly shows that power and popularity are two different things.
