Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday (July 28) targeted People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti over her statement given at Jantar Mantar. He alleged that Mehbooba Mufti had made remarks justifying the use of force against Kashmiris and has not yet apologized for it.
Earlier this week, Mehbooba had reportedly defended the first use of pellet guns in the Valley. He had said that the situation in Kashmir was different because the security forces were fighting terrorism. Mehbooba had opposed the police action against student protesters in the national capital.

‘Difference between apologizing and expressing regret’- Omar Abdullah
Later he clarified that he never justified the use of force against Kashmiris. On the question asked about Mehbooba’s statement, Omar Abdullah said, “Did she apologize?” Did he use the word ‘apology’? There is a difference between expressing regret and apologizing. Was the word ‘apology’ used? No, right? Then where is the apology?
Omar Abdullah said, “You all are intelligent people.” There is a difference between regret and forgiveness. ‘I express regret’ and ‘I apologize’ – there is a world of difference between these two. He probably said, ‘If my statement hurts someone…’ When you add ‘if’, it means you’re not actually apologizing.”
‘First a lie was spread that Mehbooba had not said anything like this’
Omar Abdullah also demanded an apology from PDP MLA Waheed Para, who had described Mehbooba’s video as ‘made with the help of AI (Artificial Intelligence)’. Abdullah said, “What to do with those who tried to suppress it for five days? Who spread lies? And whose lies were exposed by Mehbooba herself in front of everyone today? One of them is the responsible MLA. Now, should he continue as MLA? His lies were exposed by his own (party) president.
The Chief Minister said, “For five days he kept saying that it was made by AI. Today, Mehbooba herself said that there is no AI involved in this.
Mehbooba Mufti had given clarification on the statement
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday apologized for the statement given in support of the protesters protesting against the NEET question paper leak case at Jantar Mantar in the national capital. He said that her statement made it appear that she was justifying the use of force against Kashmiris, but what she actually wanted to say was that due to terrorism in the valley, the security forces have an ‘excuse’.
Addressing a press conference organized here on the occasion of the 27th foundation day of PDP, Mehbooba Mufti said, “If people have been hurt by my words, then I regret.”
