- CBSE 2026: A1 grade cut-off reduced in many subjects.
- The performance of students was weak in Physics, Maths and Chemistry.
- Marks also fell in accountancy and economics in commerce stream.
- Performance in humanities subjects remained almost stable.
The grade marks range data of 2026 released by CBSE clearly indicates that this time the average performance of students in many subjects was slightly weaker than previous years. Especially the cut-off for getting A1 grade in Science and Commerce stream has come down. At the same time, not much change was seen in humanities subjects. The subjects like Physics and Accountancy are being discussed the most in the report, where the marks required for A1 grade have reduced significantly.
Physics has the biggest impact in science stream.
Talking about science stream, this time the biggest decline was seen in Physics subject. While in the year 2024, 84 marks were required to get A1 grade, in 2026 it reduced to 79. This clearly shows that this time the performance of the students was a bit weak in Physics. The cut-off in Maths has also gone down for the third consecutive year. In 2024, A1 grade started with 88 marks. It was 86 in 2025 and now it has come down to 85 in 2026. A similar trend was seen in Chemistry too. Earlier, where 92 marks were required for A1, now it has come down to 87. However, there was not much change in Biology. Like last few years, this time also the range of A1 grade remains between 91 to 100. This shows that the performance of students in Biology remained stable.
Cut-off also came down in commerce stream
In Commerce stream also, the marks required for A1 grade have reduced this year. Earlier the A1 grade in Economics used to start from 91 marks, but it has reduced to 89 marks in 2026. A slight decline has also been recorded in Business Studies and the A1 cut-off has come down from 91 to 90.

The biggest change was seen in accountancy
To get A1 grade in 2024, students needed 93 marks, but now in 2026 this cut-off has come down to 89. From this it is being estimated that this time the accountancy paper was a bit difficult for the students.
Performance in Humanities remained almost stable
There was not much change in the Humanities stream this time. In History, A1 cut-off has increased from 86 to 87. A slight change was also seen in Political Science and the A1 range increased from 87 to 89. Geography subject remained almost stable and its cut-off remained around 89 to 90 like previous years. English Core has been the most stable subject, with A1 grades ranging between 92 and 100 over the past three years.
