EPFO Nomination: EPFO has made e-nomination very important for all its members under the rules of EPF scheme. Proper nomination ensures that in case of death of the member, the PF benefit can easily be given to the chosen nominee.
Apart from this, making nomination helps in avoiding fights and legal complications among family members while claiming EPF money. Since the nomination facility is available online on the EPFO portal, members can easily submit the required information from the comfort of their homes. However, e-nomination is considered valid only when you e-sign it in time.

What does the e-nomination document say?
It is stated in the EPF e-nomination document that no action will be taken on the e-nominations which have only been filed and whose PDF has not been e-signed, in the event of death of the member. E-nomination is considered complete only when the PDF is e-signed.
Rules related to EPF nomination
The rules for nomination under EPF and EPS are different. According to the EPF Act, the wife, children (married or unmarried), elderly parents and son’s widow and children will be considered family. Whereas in the case of a female employee, her husband, children (married or unmarried), their dependent parents, dependent parents of the spouse and son’s widow and children will be considered as family.

Similarly, in case of EPF, family means the employee’s spouse, minor son or daughter of the employee and adopted son or daughter, who has been adopted before the death of the member.
