Industrial Diesel Price Hike: Due to the rise in international crude oil prices, government oil marketing companies (OMCs) in India like IOCL, BPCL increased the prices of industrial diesel on Wednesday, April 1. According to media reports, the price of Industrial Diesel or HSD has been increased by Rs 28.22 per liter. Due to this, its price has increased from Rs 109.59 to Rs 137.81 per liter. That means there has been a direct jump of 25 percent in prices.
Earlier on March 20, the price of industrial diesel had increased by Rs 22, when its price in the national capital increased from Rs 87.67 to Rs 109.59. Oil companies have also increased the price of FO (furnace oil) by Rs 23.77 per liter.
Who will be harmed?
Industrial diesel or HSD is sold in bulk to commercial entities. Its buyers include big factories and manufacturing units, which use diesel to run generators. Apart from these, it is also used in big construction agencies and infrastructure projects. Private bus operators and big transporters also buy diesel in bulk from companies.

Pump prices have been kept stable for common petrol and diesel users. That means there has been no change in the price of petrol and diesel available at retail petrol pumps. However, private retailers like Nayara Energy and Shell have increased prices by Rs 3-25 to compensate for the losses incurred by the company.
Where is Furnace Oil used?
This is a type of fuel oil, which is slightly thicker than diesel. It is used to operate heavy machines. Since it is cheaper than diesel, it is used extensively in industries. Due to the increase in its price by Rs 23.77 per liter, the cost of steel and cement industries is going to increase. It is used to burn furnaces in factories, to generate electricity in power plants, to generate steam in boilers of factories and in the engines of big ships.
