Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the police to register a case of attempt to murder against a cab driver accused of assaulting an elderly man in Thane. The incident took place near Jupiter Hospital in Thane on Tuesday (June 10) evening when the elderly man objected to the driver spitting on the road.
In this case, action has been taken 14 hours after the incident. After the intervention and instructions of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Vartak Nagar Police has registered an FIR against the accused driver under section 109 (attempt to murder) and section 352 of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS).

What is the whole matter?
According to the information, on Sunday evening an elderly man had stopped a cab driver who was spitting on the road from doing so. Angered by this, the driver got down from the vehicle and allegedly beat the old man brutally. During the incident, the accused driver was also seen trying to attack by picking up a stone in his hand. The old man’s wife and some people were seen stopping the attack. An elderly person was seriously injured in this attack. It is being told that he has a fracture in his leg. After the video of the incident went viral on social media, there was huge anger among the people.
Shiv Sainiks caught the accused cab driver
After the incident, local Shiv Sainiks searched for the accused cab driver and caught him. The accused was caught and brought to Vartak Nagar police station, where legal action was demanded against him. An important turning point in this case came when the elderly couple who were victims of assault did not come forward to lodge a complaint. After this, Shiv Sainik Nitish Patole himself became the complainant and lodged a complaint with the police. Nitesh Patole is the same Shiv Sainik who found and arrested the accused driver.
Eknath Shinde took cognizance of the matter
As soon as information about the incident was received, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde took cognizance of the matter and instructed Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre to take strict action against the accused. Shinde said that such violence against any citizen for protesting against littering in a public place will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The police have now registered a case against the accused driver and started further investigation. Vartak Nagar Police is investigating the entire matter.
