Dharmendra Pradhan Resignation: For the first time in the 12-year tenure of the Narendra Modi government, a Union Minister has resigned from his post. The resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is being seen as a big political development for the government. The special thing is that for the last one month, thousands of students and youth under the leadership of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) were agitating at Jantar Mantar in Delhi demanding his resignation. This development has also reminded us of those big movements, when the government was not ready to remove any of its Union ministers despite long protests.
Resignation of a Union Minister for the first time in 12 years
Since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister for the first time in 2014, there have been many major political controversies, mass movements and nationwide demonstrations, but no Union Minister had resigned under the pressure of the movement. In such a situation, Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation is being considered as the first ministerial resignation of the 12-year tenure of the Modi government.
Movement was going on at Jantar Mantar for a month
Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) supporters were continuously protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for the last one month demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. During the movement, issues like education system, alleged paper leak, examination reforms and accountability remained prominent. During the demonstration, several times there was tension between the police and the protesters.
The government did not bow down even in the CAA movement
Earlier, there were long protests across the country against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The agitation went on for months in many states including Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, but the central government did not withdraw the law nor did any central minister resign.
There was no resignation even during the farmers’ movement
Similarly, the farmers’ movement against the three agricultural laws was also included in the longest movements in the country. Farmers remained standing on the borders of Delhi for almost a year. Ultimately the central government decided to withdraw all three agricultural laws, but even during that time no central minister resigned.
Now the government’s next preparation on examination reform
According to sources, the government may introduce the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in Parliament on Monday. It is believed that its purpose is to implement more stringent provisions on paper leaks and other irregularities in public examinations.
Fast track court takes over work for paper leak cases
Meanwhile, the special fast track court formed to hear cases related to question paper leak and other unfair means in public examinations started functioning on Saturday. Special Judge Anu Grover Baliga has taken charge of this court in the Rouse Avenue Court complex. According to sources, the hearing of the case related to 13 accused arrested in the NEET UG 2026 paper leak case is also likely to be transferred to this court.
