Why Healthy People Die During Exercise: The sudden death of 38-year-old Special Operation Group officer Girish Bhatt of Uttarakhand Police during a workout in the gym has once again raised the question whether just looking fit is a guarantee of being healthy? Experts say that even a person who does regular exercise is often struggling with such hidden health problems, which are not detected in time.

Actually, Girish Bhatt, posted in Champawat district, was practicing in the gym, when his health deteriorated and he suddenly collapsed. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead. The actual cause of his death has not been officially confirmed yet. This incident is a deep shock for the family and colleagues. Girish Bhatt leaves behind his wife and two sons.

Why are healthy looking people facing problems?

After this incident, the discussion has once again intensified as to how even healthy looking people suddenly become victims of serious medical emergencies. Dr. Rachit Gulati told TOI that it is a big mistake to consider fitness and health as the same. Many times a person appears completely fit from outside, but problems like high blood pressure, irregular heart rhythm, blockage in arteries or genetic heart disease are silently present in his body.

Does the body give signals in advance?

According to Dr. Rachit Gulati, the body often gives signals before any major problem, but people ignore them considering them to be the effect of normal fatigue or hard work. Symptoms such as abnormal shortness of breath, heaviness in the chest, dizziness, feeling of heartbeat fast or excessive fatigue during or after a workout can be serious warnings.

What is the reason behind this?

Experts believe that suddenly starting heavy exercise after a long interval, working harder than necessary in competition with others or doing high-intensity workouts without health check-up can increase the risk. Especially people above 35 years of age, who have a family history of heart disease or who are associated with problems like diabetes, obesity, smoking and high BP, should get regular health checkups done.

What things should be kept in mind?

Dr. Rachit Gulati also explains that for safe fitness, not only exercise, but also adequate sleep, drinking right amount of water, warm-up, cool-down and proper recovery between workouts are equally important. The extreme fitness culture seen on social media is not for everyone.
