Russia’s Security Council Vice Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has given a big statement regarding Iran’s biggest strategic strength. He said that the Strait of Hormuz is no less than a nuclear weapon for Iran. According to him, during the recent conflict, Iran made the whole world realize its power by showing control over this important sea route.
Medvedev had come to attend Khamenei’s funeral
Dmitry Medvedev made this statement after attending the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran. In some translations of his statement on social media, words like ‘Armenian Strait’ and later ‘Maldive Strait’ appeared, but from many reports and the full context, it is clear that he was referring to the Strait of Hormuz, which is located between Iran and Oman.

Medvedev said, ‘In place of the real nuclear weapon, Iran has discovered a weapon which is no less than it and that is the Strait of Hormuz.’ He said that this sea route has very special international importance, because on one side of it there is Iran and on the other side there is Oman.

The Russian leader said that during the recent war, Iran demonstrated its geopolitical power by controlling this sea route. He said, ‘By stopping the movement, Iran has shown how great its power is. Now discussions and agreements are being made on how this strait will operate in the future.
Hormuz can become a big weapon in military conflict
Comparing it to Nuclear Deterrence, Medvedev said that in case of war, the Strait of Hormuz can prove to be a very effective strategic weapon for Iran. He said, ‘I think that Iran has not only nuclear weapons but also power like thermonuclear weapons and that is the Strait of Hormuz, which can be used during military conflict.’
Thousands of people bid last farewell to Khamenei
This statement of Medvedev has come at a time when thousands of people gathered at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosque in Tehran to bid final farewell to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. People dressed in black paid tribute to Khamenei and his family members, holding photographs in their hands. During this, slogans of ‘Down with America’ also echoed in the entire campus.
Foreign guests also attended the funeral
The coffins of Khamenei and several members of his family were kept for the last glimpse. Senior officials of Iran and many foreign representatives also participated in the tribute program organized earlier, in which Dmitry Medvedev was also present.
The funeral program will continue for a week
Programs related to Khamenei’s last visit in Iran will continue throughout the week. After this he will be laid to rest in Mashhad. During this period, religious programs will also be organized in Qom and Shia holy cities of Iraq, Najaf and Karbala.
World’s eyes on Hormuz Strait
