Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday criticized America over the death of three Indian crew members in Hormuz and raised questions on Washington’s attitude. He said that even regret or condolence was not expressed in the official statement.
The Congress leader posted on X and said that he is deeply shocked after reading this official statement of America, in which there is nothing to express regret or condolence on the death of innocent Indians. How can a friend and strategic partner be so insensitive?
Congress MP Tharoor raised the question as to why other methods were not used to stop the ship in question. He asked, “Why couldn’t the non-compliant commercial ships be stopped through other means?” He further asked, “Is it not possible to disable a ship’s propulsion or steering without firing a missile?”
Deeply shocking to read this official US statement, which contains absolutely no expression of regret or condolence for the loss of innocent Indian lives. How can a “friend” and strategic partner be so deeply insensitive?

Jaishankar spoke to Marco Rubio on phone
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday raised the issue of the death of three Indian sailors with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while Washington sternly said that violations of their naval blockade will not be tolerated. After a phone conversation with Rubio, Jaishankar described the US military’s deadly action against commercial ships as unjustified.
When did America target Indian ships?
On June 8, the US military targeted the Palau-flagged oil tanker Marivex, which was carrying 24 Indian sailors. However, all the crew members present on the ship were rescued safely. On June 10, the US attacked another Palau-flagged tanker ‘Setebelo’, which had 24 Indian sailors on board. 3 Indians died in this attack. On Thursday, another ship ‘Jalveer’ was attacked, which was a Guinea-Bissau flagged tanker and had 20 Indian nationals on board.
