The team that wins the Indian Premier League trophy gets bumper prize money every year. A lot of money is showered on the champion and runner-up teams, while the teams going to the playoffs are also given some part of the prize money. But every team works hard throughout the season, does the team that does not go to the playoffs return home empty handed? Know here how much prize money will the teams which did not go to the playoffs including Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants get?
Usually, whenever an ICC tournament is played, the prize pool is divided among all the teams. For example, if the prize pool is Rs 50 crore, it is distributed among all the teams participating in the tournament apart from the winner and runner-up. But BCCI has not made any such rule for IPL.
The team which does not reach the IPL playoffs does not get any prize money. This means that Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and other eliminated teams will not get any prize money.
How much money do playoff teams get?
BCCI has not yet made any official announcement regarding the prize money of IPL 2026. If we remember IPL 2025, last season’s champion Royal Challengers Bangalore had received prize money of Rs 20 crore. Whereas the runner-up Punjab Kings got Rs 12.5 crore. The third placed team received prize money of Rs 7 crore and the fourth placed team received prize money of Rs 6.5 crore.
