Ranbir Kapoor starrer and Nitesh Tiwari directed ‘Ramayana’ is the much awaited film of the year. Its trailer was to be released on July 24 but due to CJP Protest, its release date has been postponed. Amidst all this, TV’s Sita i.e. Deepika Chikhalia has given her opinion on Sai Pallavi playing the role of Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana.
The image of Deepika, who played the role of Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’, is still present in the hearts and minds of people. He praised Sai’s ability, but also said that the real impact will depend on how she is able to play this character on screen.
‘Ramayana’ What did Deepika say on the character of Sai Pallavi in?
Actually, while talking to ‘Variety India’, Deepika discussed Sita’s traditional looks and the special qualities that Ramanand Sagar kept in mind while casting for his TV show.
Regarding Sai Pallavi, Deepika said, “I have seen her work. She is a tremendous actor. But I don’t know how she will look in the role of Sita. We will know only when we see her. Right now, I have no idea about it.”
What qualities did Ramanandan Sagar want for the role of Sita?
After this, while mentioning Sita in Tulsidas’s Ramayana, the actress said that Ramanand Sagar had searched for an actress with special physical qualities for this role. Deepika said, “In Tulsidas’s Ramayana, Sita has been described as a woman with almond-like eyes, a certain height, hair and complexion. Ramanand Sagar was looking for similar qualities and he saw them in me.”
He also said that there is no mention of Sita’s curly hair in Tulsidas’s Ramayana, his statement is being seen as a direct hint towards Sai Pallavi’s natural curly hair.
Deepika further said that all the actors associated with the new film are excellent and if they fit the characters as per the vision of the makers, then the casting will be successful. She said, “I know that all of them are good actors. If they prove to be right for this role, then it is a good thing.”
Deepika said this about Govil
Deepika also talked about Arun Govil, who played the role of Lord Ram with her in Ramanand’s ‘Ramayana’ and will now be seen in the role of King Dasharatha in Nitish Tiwari’s film. He said that he and Arun Govil are identified with the characters they played three decades ago, and questioned why anyone would want to give up that identity. She said, “I am known as Sita. Sometimes people forget my name, but they remember that I played Sita. That is my identity. I don’t know why anyone would want to lose it.”

Deepika’s career was affected by playing the role of Sita
Deepika Chikhalia openly told how playing the role of Sita affected her career. He said that the role which made him famous almost ended his future opportunities as an actor, the industry could not see him in any other role and he stopped getting work. “I haven’t got any work. In fact, I am still asking people for work,” she said.
He compared his experience with today’s big actors and mentioned Ranbir Kapoor, who is playing the role of Lord Ram in Tiwari’s film. Ranbir has worked easily between characters like ‘Barfi’, ‘Sanju’ and ‘Animal’ without being tied to any one type of image. He said, “This is the specialty of today’s time. It was not like this in our times. We were all stuck in the same type of roles. Even today, it is very difficult to get work because people are not able to see me in any other role, that is why I stepped into production.”
What did Deepika say about Yash’s character for the role of Ravana?
On Yash being selected for the role of Ravana, Chikhalia said that he has seen some of Yash’s work and is hopeful that he will give a “strong” performance. But he reiterated his main point, the original series is still so fresh in people’s minds that it will not be easy for any new version to take its place.
He told that in 2020, during the pandemic lockdown, Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’ was shown again on Doordarshan and it was seen by a completely new generation, which further strengthened its hold in the minds of people. He said, “If this film had come after 50 years, people would have forgotten Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’ and its actors. Now it is very fresh in people’s minds.”
