West Bengal Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari on Friday (July 10, 2026) visited Baharampur city of Murshidabad district, where he stressed on the development of Murshidabad. Targeting AJUP chief Humayun Kabir, he said that I am not a weak Chief Minister like Mamata Banerjee. Irresponsible and objectionable comments of public representatives will not be tolerated at any cost.
Regarding the Rejinagar assembly by-election, he said, ‘Rejinagar assembly by-elections are going to be held in two months and our focus is on the development of Murshidabad. We will do development politics in Murshidabad and not Hindu-Muslim politics, which has been done for a long time. Religious identity of any person will not be considered in development works. The government is working equally for all the citizens and our aim is to work for the overall development of the region and the welfare of all the people.
Chief Minister laid emphasis on maintaining law and order in the state
Emphasizing on maintaining law and order in the state, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari said, ‘On the question of law and order in the state, we reviewed that big festivals like Bakrid and Muharram have been celebrated here. Rath Yatra and Jal Yatra are also going to take place in the coming days in Sawan. Our aim is that the law and order system should work smoothly and everyone should respect the law.
He said that everyone is supporting and no major incident has happened in West Bengal in the last two months. There was some rhetoric, but we took major action on it and if there is any problem then let me know, I will take action on it.
Instructions given to police to take action on human trafficking – Officer
Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari, who was on a visit to Baharampur in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, said while talking to the media, ‘Law and order will be maintained in the state under any circumstances. Setting fire to railway lines, burning police stations and BD offices and attacking police have now become a thing of the past. To further strengthen the security of women, instructions have been given to the police to take strict action against human trafficking in the border areas.

Meanwhile, regarding the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari said, ‘The Bengal Cabinet has constituted a committee for Uniform Civil Code (UCC). A high-level committee has been formed under the chairmanship of retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai and the commission has also started its work.

He said, ‘We hope that soon the UCC Bill will be introduced in the Bengal Assembly. After the approval of the Governor, the Published Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill will come into force from Monday (July 13, 2026).
