The issue between America and Iran does not seem to be resolved. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has once again warned Tehran. Trump has claimed that Iran has called him fake news regarding tax collection on the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, no toll, insurance cost or other charges are being charged on ships passing through Hormuz.
Trump has shared a post regarding this on the social media platform Truth. He claimed that Iran has informed the US that reports related to any such fees or charges are ‘fake news’ and do not correspond to reality. He also said that if any information to the contrary is proved to be true, then the ongoing talks will be ended immediately.
In his statement, Trump also claimed, “The United States has not given any money to Iran, nor have any of its funds been released. Some of the funds, which are under US control, will be released to American farmers and ranchers so that they can purchase corn, wheat, soybeans and other agricultural products.”
He further said that Iran is in need of food items and the US will ensure that the necessary food supplies are made exclusively from American agricultural products.
What Iran-Oman said in the joint statement
Iran has been continuously saying that it will retain control over the Strait of Hormuz. On Tuesday, Iran and Oman issued a joint statement saying that both countries will consider the fees charged for the maintenance of this route and services from ships.
At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during his visit to UAE that under any final agreement, America will not allow Iran to collect toll from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. He said that this is an international waterway. No country is allowed to collect toll or fee on international maritime routes. I am sure other countries in the region will also agree with this.
