Grow Napier grass and cowpea
Napier grass and cowpea are considered best in preparing green fodder for animals. After August, when the heavy monsoon rains subside a little. Then it is the right time for their sowing. Once planted, Napier grass gives continuous harvest for many years and grows very fast.
On the other hand, cowpea is a legume fodder crop which is rich in protein. When these two are mixed and fed to animals. So they get all the essential nutrients together. Eating it not only improves the health of cows and buffaloes but also increases the milk yielding capacity.

Keep these things in mind
To avoid shortage of fodder in the winter months, the field should be prepared in the early weeks of September itself. There should be a good arrangement for drainage of water in the field so that the remaining water after monsoon does not rot the roots. You can plant Napier grass in lines and sow cowpea in the empty space between them.
Cowpea crop is ready very quickly and you can mix it with Napier in the first harvest itself. By adopting this method, bumper yield of fodder is obtained even in less land and the expense of purchasing expensive dry fodder and grains from the market is completely saved.
