After the article by Indian National Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sonia Gandhi on the issue of Iran, Congress Lok Sabha MP Imran Masood met the Indian representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Abdul Hakim Majeed Elahi. During this, Imran Masood expressed grief over the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The representative said in the conversation that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei used to mention Gandhi and Nehru, he had read ‘Discovery of India’ four times and he was influenced by Gandhi’s ideology.
On the other hand, on this issue, Imran Masood said in a special conversation with ABP News that Iran is a true friend of India and India’s foreign policy has traditionally been with Iran, but the current government is shirking diplomatic responsibility.
He said that during Operation Sindoor, Iran had supported India on the Kashmir issue. Imran Masood also said that the Supreme Leader of Iran was assassinated, but not even two words of condolence came from the Central Government, whereas condolences are expressed even on the death of the enemy and Iran has been a friend of India, which has stood with India in every bad time.
What has Sonia Gandhi written?
Let us tell you, strongly criticizing the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi said on Tuesday that the government’s silence on the targeted killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is not neutrality but a retreat from responsibility and it raises serious questions on the direction and credibility of India’s foreign policy. The former Congress president also demanded that the government’s ‘worrying silence’ on the breakdown of the international system should be discussed openly and without any hesitation in the second phase of the budget session of Parliament.
In her article published in the daily newspaper ‘The Indian Express’, Sonia Gandhi said that there is an urgent need to ‘rediscover’ moral strength and express it with clarity and commitment. He said, ‘On March 1, Iran confirmed that its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Husseini Khamenei had been assassinated in targeted strikes carried out by the US and Israel the day before. The assassination of a sitting head of state amid ongoing negotiations creates a serious rift in contemporary international relations.’
He said that despite this shocking incident, New Delhi’s silence is also surprising. Sonia Gandhi said that the Indian government has neither condemned the killing nor the violation of Iran’s sovereignty.
