The date of 26th June (Friday) may be written in black letters in the history of Indian cricket. On this day, Team India had to face a shameful defeat by 34 runs in the first T20 against Ireland. This was the first time in the history of cricket that Ireland defeated Team India in any format.
With this defeat, Team India’s reign against Ireland ended. Now the question is arising that why did the star-studded strong team India have to face defeat against the Irish team in which 6 main players were not playing due to injury? There were also two players in the Irish team who were playing their first debut match. So let us know what were the 3 major reasons for India’s defeat in the match.
1- Bowling after winning the toss
Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl. The pitch of the Civil Service Cricket Club ground in Belfast was absolutely suitable for batting, on which the Indian team, batting first, could put a total of more than 200 runs on the board. It would not have been easy for Ireland to chase such a big total, but captain Iyer decided to bowl. Batting first, Ireland put a total of 182 runs on the board, chasing which the Men in Blue were all out for 148 runs in 18.5 overs.
2- Getting the famous Krishna to bowl full 4 overs
Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna looked in bad form right from the beginning. He spent 15 runs in the first over. Even after Prasidh’s expensive over, captain Shreyas Iyer expressed confidence in him and made him complete four overs. In three overs, Prasidh gave away 30 runs at an economy of 10 without taking any wicket. Even after this, he was given the fourth over, in which he spent 27 runs, while Shreyas had the option of other bowlers. He gave maximum 57 runs in 4 overs.
3- Batsmen playing in a hurry
Indian batsmen looked in a hurry while chasing. Still, the beginning was good. The team lost the third wicket for 60 runs when Shreyas Iyer was out. Then the fourth wicket fell at 80 runs, when Abhishek Sharma returned to the pavilion after scoring fifty. Even after four wickets fell, the Indian batsmen adopted an aggressive attitude, due to which wickets fell quickly. No big partnership could be formed in the middle overs, which was a major reason for India’s defeat.
