India 2047 Conclave: Renowned economist Surjit Singh Bhalla will lead an important session at ABP Network’s ‘India @ 2047 Conclave’ on June 3, 2026. In this session he will share his views on dealing with economic challenges and deciding the direction of India’s future development. Bhalla will address delegates in the afternoon session titled “Economic Crisis: What should the government do?” The main focus of the discussion is expected to be on policy measures, economic reforms and strategies to sustain long-term growth amid global uncertainties.

Surjit Bhalla, recognized as a leading figure in economic policy-making and financial markets, is currently the Chairman of Oxus Investments. It is a research and portfolio management firm based in New Delhi. Since its inception in 1998, Oxus has been actively managing investments in the Indian equity market. It was one of the first firms to get a portfolio management license in India.

Bhalla’s educational background is from some of the world’s leading institutions. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1969. Subsequently, in 1972, he received a Master of Public Affairs degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Princeton University. Later, in 1977, he obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University. Completed.
Great career in global organizations
During his career, Bhalla has worked with many prestigious organizations, including the Rand Corporation, Brookings Institution and the World Bank. He has also taught at Delhi School of Economics and has played important roles as an economist, strategist, trader and portfolio manager.
His professional journey includes experience working with leading financial institutions such as Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, World Bank and Oxus Investments. Beyond the private sector, he has also made extensive contributions in the field of public policy, serving in advisory roles with the Government of India.
Bhalla has served as a member of the National Statistical Commission. Apart from this, he has also been associated with important committees related to ‘Capital Account Convertibility’ constituted by the Reserve Bank of India and the Government of India. He has also worked closely with market regulator SEBI on issues related to derivatives, secondary markets and portfolio management.

His works include ‘Imagine There Is No Country: Poverty, Inequality, and Growth in the Era of Globalization’ and ‘Second Among Equals’.
