Former Indian cricket spinner R Ashwin recently made a comment about Vaibhav Suryavanshi, after which he came under the scanner. Now he has given a statement clarifying this. Earlier he had said that if Vaibhav Suryavanshi is not playing then he should serve drinks to his teammates. Now speaking on his YouTube channel, he clarified that the comment was not made in a derogatory manner, and he only meant that it would be a good experience for the 15-year-old player to spend some time on the bench to learn. India’s young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his debut during the T20 series against England and even scored two half-centuries against Zimbabwe. He said on his YouTube channel, ‘I had earlier said that Vaibhav Suryavanshi can spend time, serve a drink to someone, sit outside. It was not meant in a disrespectful way.
Ashwin further said, ‘I was saying that he will get a lot to learn. He has such a big learning process that if he sits out and watches it, he will become even better. Don’t talk about dropping or picking, let him be, let him develop. He will be a really amazing player. ‘Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s England tour was very bad. Joffer Archer also troubled him a lot there. While on the England tour, Suryavanshi could not bear the fast bowler’s short balls for long and returned to the pavilion, but on the Zimbabwe tour, he looked in form.
Ashwin pointed out that most of the bowlers failed to trouble Suryavanshi during the match and also said that people cannot ‘predict his departure’. Talking about Vaibhav’s career, Ashwin said, ‘Who according to you is the strongest batsman against short ball? Ricky Ponting? Has he never been out on a short ball? He was also out. So we have to understand that everyone has their own merits and demerits. These things are common in international cricket. It’s simple, show your strengths, hide your weaknesses and keep working on them behind the scenes. All these questions… How many times did he play against Jofra Archer at Trent Bridge? These are all experiences. We cannot talk about the end of his career immediately. One cannot be dismissed just like that.

He further said, ‘He is still a small child. The problem is that we rate them too highly. Due to his excellent performance in IPL, expectations have increased a lot. We want him to play like Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma in every match and continue to perform well. Actually this does not happen. There are ups and downs in life, and the same happens in cricket too.
