‘Jumped into the sea as soon as the storm came, but…’, the man who survived the Vietnam boat accident narrated his scary story.

15 Indian tourists died when their speedboat capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam. The government there has ordered an investigation into this entire matter. Nirmal Kumar, an Indian man who survived the accident, told how the sudden storm capsized the boat within a few seconds. He said that rescue teams immediately reached the spot, but due to lack of medical facilities, more people died.

The surviving person recounted his horrifying ordeal

He told, ‘When we were going from one island to another, suddenly a storm came and in the blink of an eye the boat overturned. We were in the front part of the boat and jumped out into the sea, the people who were inside got trapped and could not get out as the boat capsized. There were a total of 105 people in the boat. Local rescue teams immediately reached the spot, but due to lack of adequate medical facilities and lack of medicines on the nearby island, not many people survived.

Tourist Nirmal Kumar said, ‘Necessary assistance was not available according to the number of needy people on the island. Vietnam Air Force came after two-three hours and helped us. Indian authorities have provided assistance to the affected people after the tragedy. Everyone went back. There are four of us from the company and I am staying here.

Vietnam PM’s statement after the accident

According to the report of local media outlet Tuoi Tre News, in an official message issued after the incident, Prime Minister Kwok expressed his condolences to the families of those killed and directed ministries, government agencies and local officials to provide all available medical resources, medicines and emergency help.

The bodies of 15 Indian tourists killed in this accident have been taken to Ho Chi Minh City from where they will be sent to India. The Indian Embassy in Hanoi also said that out of the 17 rescued Indian tourists, 16 are returning home and the condition of one tourist is critical and he is admitted in a hospital in Phu Quoc.
