In such a situation, ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ is in the news these days. Information is coming out regarding this series that the government has banned it. It was scheduled to be released on OTT platform Zee5 on April 27 but now it will not be released. The Government of India has informed the High Court today on 24th April.

‘Lawrence of Punjab’ is a documentary series, after the announcement of which there was an uproar in Punjab. There was a demand from the Punjab government to ban its release. Special DGP Cyber ​​Crime wrote a letter to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting demanding a ban on this. He had written in the letter that the documentary promotes gangsters. Along with this, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Buding has also demanded a ban on this documentary series. For this, he has also filed a PIL in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Sidhu Moosewala’s father also expressed protest

Not only this, along with the Punjab government, Balkaur Singh, father of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has also opposed this documentary. Along with this, Shiromani Akali Dal also demanded a ban on it.

Punjab Congress President warned

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding not only expressed his opposition to the series made on gangsters like Lawrence Bishnoi but also warned against glorifying them. He said, ‘This sacred land should not be defamed by associating the name of gangster with Punjab.’ He also expressed his objection against ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ and said that it will not only promote gangster culture and glorifying it will also be an insult to Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat. Because he believes that this holy land of Gurus, Rishis and Peers is being associated with a dangerous gangster.

What was said in the petition?

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding filed a PIL in the Punjab Haryana High Court regarding the series ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ and alleged that the series misrepresents the life of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who was involved in illegal activities. He believes that it can negatively impact the youth. The petition also emphasizes the lack of pre-certification and the need for strict regulatory guidelines for OTT content.

Shiromani Akali Dal also protested

Apart from this, Shiromani Akali Dal also opposed the Lawrence of Punjab documentary series. Akali Dal leader Arshdeep Kaler said, ‘A film based on gangsters is coming called Lawrence of Punjab. Punjab is being defamed as part of a well-planned conspiracy. It was claimed from his side that through this series it is being shown that the youth of Punjab is a gangster. Whereas Punjab had a glorious history. But, it is not right to link Punjab with gangsters and drugs, such a conspiracy will not succeed.
