LPG News: There is currently a ceasefire between Iran and the US. But the impact of this war that lasted for several months has not diminished even now. Due to this war, there was a severe shortage of oil and gas in India. But now the Indian government has waited to deal with it. Because now India does not need to depend only on Gulf countries for LPG. Let us tell you why this is so?

LPG will be imported from US
In fact, now government oil companies are planning to double the annual import of LPG from America to about 22 lakh tonnes. Besides, options for purchasing LPG from new countries like Algeria are also being explored, so that there is not much dependence on any one region. A one-year agreement was signed between India and America in November 2025. Under which, in 2026, India agreed to buy about 10% of its annual LPG requirement from America.

What did the officials say?
Speaking to TOI, a senior executive of an oil company said that during the war in the Middle East, the availability of crude oil was not a major problem, but the supply of LPG had become a challenge. At such a time, America played an important role in meeting India’s needs by providing extra gas. America has a huge capacity to export LPG. Therefore, in future, India is working towards making its supply secure and diverse by purchasing more gas from there.

Let us tell you that till now India has been importing a major part of its needs from the countries of the Middle East. But the supply of LPG was most affected due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in March. Availability of LPG had become more difficult than crude oil. At such a time, America emerged as one of the largest LPG suppliers to India. Apart from this, India also purchased LPG from Argentina, Nigeria and Malaysia.
