LSG VS DC: Rishabh Pant angry at the defeat against Delhi Capitals, held it responsible in front of everyone

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lost to Delhi Capitals (DC) by 6 wickets in the fifth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. LSG captain Rishabh Pant has cited extra runs as the reason for the defeat.

Lucknow Super Giants, who came to bat first, were all out for 141 runs in 18.4 overs. In response, DC registered victory in 17.1 overs despite losing 4 wickets for 26 runs. LSG gave away 20 extra runs in Delhi’s innings. These included 16 wides and 4 leg byes.

After losing the match, Rishabh Pant said, “When you score 140 runs, you try harder. If they had played normal cricket, they would have won. If they had got a few more wickets in the power-play, they could have put pressure on them.”

Pant admitted that initially the bowlers were getting help from the pitch, but he felt that his team could not take advantage of it in batting. He explained, “The new ball was helping, but we were not able to build any big partnerships. When you don’t have enough runs, you have to take some difficult decisions, like making a batsman bowl a little.”

Talking about his own wicket, Pant said, “The best way to overcome it is to ignore it. You can’t control it, and thinking about it puts you under pressure.”

In this match, Captain Pant was out after scoring 7 runs, while Ayush Badoni could not even open the account. Talking about the team’s batting style and Ayush Badoni’s role, Pant said, “The idea was simple. He would take charge in the middle overs, while I would come up the batting order. We wanted to maintain the left-right combination, so that the opposition team could not settle with their left-arm spinner. I got out at the wrong time. Axar still had an over left in the power-play, which could have helped us.”
