IPL 2026: In a high-voltage match of the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets on Monday. In this match of more than 450 runs, the batsmen dominated, but in the end the experienced players of Mumbai won. After the defeat, Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant clearly admitted that his team had not added enough runs on the board, due to which they had to suffer the consequences.
After losing the toss and coming to bat first, Lucknow Super Giants had a solid start. Opener Mitchell Marsh set the stage by playing an aggressive innings of 44 runs in 25 balls. However, the real fireworks came from the bat of Nicholas Pooran. Puran played an explosive inning of 63 runs in just 21 balls, which included 8 skyscraper sixes. On the basis of the 94-run partnership between Marsh and Puran for the second wicket, Lucknow scored a huge score of 228 runs for 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Mumbai’s great comeback
Mumbai Indians, who set out to chase the mountain-like target of 229 runs, had a dream-like start. Rohit Sharma, who was returning after injury, was seen in his old style. He scored 84 runs (6 fours, 7 sixes) in just 44 balls. He was fully supported by Ryan Rickelton, who played a stormy innings of 83 runs in 32 balls. The partnership of 143 runs between these two for the first wicket took the match away from the grip of Lucknow. Although some wickets fell in between, Mumbai achieved the target with 8 balls remaining.

Captain Rishabh Pant – ‘Luck and lack of runs’
Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant looked disappointed in the award distribution ceremony after the match. Referring to the defeat, he said, “The way we started, we definitely should have scored more runs. The opposition bowled well and they are used to these home conditions. To be honest, we fell behind by 10 to 15 runs.”

Pant further defended the bowlers and said that on such flat pitches where the boundaries are small and the ball is coming on the bat well, it would be wrong to blame the bowlers. He also said that the team needs some ‘good luck’.
