West Bengal Elections 2026: There is a lot of political activity in the state regarding the assembly elections to be held in West Bengal. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of the country has strongly reprimanded the Mamata Banerjee government of Bengal over the incident of hostage taking of officers who had gone to conduct Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Malda district of the state. The Supreme Court said that this incident is not only an attempt to intimidate the judicial officers, but also challenges the rights of this court.
After the rebuke of the Supreme Court, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given her reaction on this on Thursday (April 2, 2026). He said that he was not aware that seven judicial officers were held hostage overnight in Malda district. He complained that before the state elections this month, the Election Commission had implemented top-level changes in the administration, due to which he now felt that the administrative machinery of the state was not under his control.
