Manipur Assembly Election 2027: Before the 2027 assembly elections in Manipur, the political and security situation has again come into the center of discussion. Amidst the ongoing caste tension in the state, recovery of weapons and Naga-Kuki dispute, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday. According to sources, the security situation of the state and the development works being run by the government were discussed in this meeting.
Three Naga societies demand intervention from PM Modi
Meanwhile, three Naga civil society organizations of Manipur have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding “personal and immediate intervention”. The organizations alleged that there are continuous incidents of violence and territorial encroachment against Naga villages in the hill districts by Kuki groups. He appealed to the Central Government to control the active Kuki militant groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.

Naga organizations also demanded to rapidly advance the Indo-Naga peace process on the basis of the framework agreement signed between the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim i.e. NSCN (IM). He says that only a respectful and inclusive solution can bring lasting peace in the state.

Security forces intensified search operations in Manipur
On the other hand, security forces have continuously intensified search operations in Manipur. According to police, at least 20 weapons and a huge quantity of ammunition were recovered during two separate operations in Imphal West district. 16 weapons, including ten pistols, one INSAS rifle and .303 rifle, were recovered from Langol Hill Range. Two pistols, two hand grenades and other weapons were seized from Ingel Hill area of Sekmai police station area.
More than 260 people have died so far in the ongoing caste violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Jo communities in Manipur since May 2023, while thousands have been rendered homeless.
