The match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings has been canceled due to continuous rain. Before the rain at Eden Gardens, KKR had scored 25 runs at the loss of two wickets in 3.4 overs. After that the game could not start and the match was declared canceled at around 10.30 pm.
There was already a possibility of rain in Kolkata, so Ajinkya Rahane’s decision to bat first after winning the toss was surprising. Even big personalities strongly criticized this decision. KKR’s troubles increased further when Xavier Bartlett dismissed Finn Allen and Cameron Green in the same over.
KKR escaped from being badly beaten
The cut-off time for the 5-5 over match between Kolkata and Punjab was kept at 11.14 pm. If there had been a match of five overs each, the Kolkata team would have got only 8 more balls to bat. KKR could score only 25 runs in 3.4 overs of play. After many efforts, Kolkata could reach a maximum of 50 runs only. Obviously, Punjab would have a huge advantage if the match restarted.
One point each for both teams
Due to the cancellation of the match, the points account of Kolkata Knight Riders has been opened in the points table. After getting one point, KKR team has come to eighth place. After getting one point, Punjab Kings now have 5 points and have reached the top of the table. Punjab Kings has been unbeaten in the tournament so far. On the other hand, Kolkata has not got a single win in the tournament so far.
