Know why there is dispute between Assam Rifles and local people?
The incident of death of two Assam Rifles soldiers has happened after a few weeks. Earlier, a clash was seen between protesters and security personnel in the same district of Manipur. About four civilians were injured in this. The reason for the clash was that an Assam Rifles post was to be built in this area. Due to which there was controversy.
The villagers allege that about 40 Assam Rifles soldiers posted in Lambui village tried to set up a post in New Haven without consulting the local authorities. This was opposed by local residents including women and student groups of the area. Protests were also seen during this period. Assam Rifles soldiers resorted to lathi charge. Several rounds of bullets were also fired, due to which four civilians were injured.
