The hottest 9 days of summer are called Nautapa. This year Nautapa will start from 25th May and last till 2nd June. During this time, the sun’s rays fall directly on the earth, due to which the temperature increases rapidly. In many cities of North India, the temperature reaches beyond 45 degrees. Due to strong sunlight, heat wave and dehydration, the risk of getting sick increases significantly at this time. Especially children and the elderly need to be more careful.
According to health experts, during Nautapa the body gets dehydrated quickly and the risk of heat stroke increases. Children, elderly, pregnant women and heart or diabetes patients can fall ill easily in this season. If body temperature increases too much, problems like dizziness, vomiting, fever and weakness can occur. Therefore, it is important to take special care of food and daily routine in this season.
Why are children at greater risk?
Children are most at risk because their immunity is weak. Due to excessive playing and exposure to sunlight, their body quickly becomes dehydrated. Small children are also at greater risk of heat stroke. In such a situation, keep giving ORS, lemonade and coconut water to children from time to time. Do not send them out to play between 12 noon to 4 pm and make them wear light cotton clothes.
Why are elderly people at greater risk?
Nautapa is a very difficult time for the elderly also. With increasing age the body’s ability to tolerate heat starts decreasing. Deficiency of water in the body starts quickly and the risk of heat stroke increases. Therefore, keep the elderly in a cool room and keep giving them water frequently.
