Pakistan was once again seen singing the praises of Indus Water Treaty on the global stage. He has again spread lies against India. Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar raised the issue of Kashmir and Indus Water Treaty in an ASEAN-related meeting in Manila. On this, India took it to task on Thursday (July 23) and said that Islamabad tries to divert attention from its record of spreading lies and promoting terrorism.
Ishaq Dar said at the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) ministers’ meeting that the Indus Water Treaty issue should be resolved through dialogue and following international law.
India’s befitting reply to Pakistan
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘India completely rejects the baseless and unwanted comments of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.’ He said, ‘It is not surprising that Pakistan has once again used a multilateral forum to divert attention from its well-known record of spreading lies, state-backed disinformation and promoting cross-border terrorism.’
Jaiswal made this comment in response to questions asked regarding Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Dar’s statement. He said, ‘The Union Territories of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh have been, are and will always be an integral and inseparable part of India. Pakistan has no right to comment on this.
Jaiswal said that India remains firm on its stand regarding the Indus Water Treaty. India had taken several strong diplomatic and economic steps, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, immediately after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 last year in which 26 civilians were killed. “The Indus Water Treaty has been suspended in response to Pakistan’s continued promotion of cross-border terrorism, including the dastardly attack in Pahalgam,” a MEA spokesperson said.
Will Pakistan get water only after terrorism ends?
Jaiswal said the Indus Water Treaty would remain in abeyance until Pakistan ‘credibly and definitively gives up its support for cross-border terrorism’. He said India has also strongly condemned Pakistan’s actions in spreading “officially sponsored disinformation”, often garbed in religious terms like ‘Fitna-al-Hindustan’.
Jaiswal said, ‘This is a futile attempt by the Pakistani establishment to divert attention from its internal crises and its proven role as a safe haven for global terrorist networks.’ He said, ‘Instead of pointing fingers at its neighbors and misusing international forums, it would be better for Pakistan to dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism on its soil and get its house in order.’
