Recently there have been talks between America and Iran regarding ceasefire in Pakistan. Soon after, a police constable was shot dead, while another was injured in separate attacks on polio vaccination teams in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. In Balochistan, unidentified armed men opened fire on a polio team in Dera Murad Jamali area of Nasirabad district, killing a constable.
Senior Quetta police officer Asif Khanzada said that the group of security personnel, including women employees, had stopped at a shady place for lunch when assailants riding on three motorcycles targeted the security personnel. He said, ‘Armed men riding on three motorcycles opened fire on the policemen deployed to protect the polio vaccination team.’
The officer said that constable Farhan Bashir was killed in this attack and the attackers managed to escape. So far no group has taken responsibility for this attack. In a separate incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an armed assailant opened fire on a constable’s party on Samana Road in Hangu district, hitting Mohammad Anas in the leg. Anas was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Suspect arrested immediately after the attack
Police said that the suspect involved in the attack was arrested immediately after the incident. The incident comes two days after unidentified terrorists opened fire on a security squad deployed to protect polio vaccination teams in the province on Monday.
In that firing incident, a police constable was killed and four other personnel were injured. The incident took place on the first day of the state-wide anti-polio campaign in Chapri Waziran area under the jurisdiction of the Army police station in Hangu district.
Terrorists kidnap polio team from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
In a related incident, suspected terrorists abducted three polio team workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, police said on Wednesday. According to the police, the incident took place in Jhandokhel area, where unknown people abducted three members of the polio vaccination team. These workers had gone for routine vaccination.
