Petrol-Diesel Price Today: Amidst the rising prices of crude oil at the global level, on one hand, private companies are increasing the prices of fuel. At the same time, government companies are largely stable. This is a relief to the general public of the country. Just last week, Shell India increased the prices of petrol by Rs 7.41 per liter and diesel by Rs 25.01 per liter, which shows the pressure on companies amid rising input costs.
However, public sector companies have adopted a more balanced approach. Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) recently increased the price of its premium XP100 petrol by Rs 11 per liter, taking its price beyond Rs 160. The price of its premium diesel XtraGreen was also increased to Rs 92.99 per liter.
Government took a big step
Let us tell you that to provide relief to both consumers and government oil companies, the Central Government intervened last month and reduced the excise duty on normal petrol by Rs 3 per liter and completely removed it on diesel. The government’s move has helped oil marketing companies (OMCs) absorb some of the shock in global prices and keep basic fuel rates relatively stable, even though their profits are still under pressure.
Fuel prices remained stable across India on April 7, despite volatility in the global crude market and disruptions on certain shipping routes. The unchanged rates have come at a time when petrol and diesel prices are being closely monitored ahead of the upcoming state elections.
