Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and many other leaders sitting in protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence on Tuesday (21 July 2026) were taken into custody by the police. The police took all the leaders away from the protest site in a bus. After being detained, Rahul Gandhi said, ‘Modi ji, try every possible thing, use all your strength, this fight for justice of the students will not stop now.’
Account of atrocities will have to be given: Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi said, ‘Arrest, put in jail, it does not matter, the power of our Satyagraha is greater than the power of Modi government. The atrocities committed against our children will have to be accounted for.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav also participated in this protest. Congress leaders staged a protest near ‘7 Lok Kalyan Marg’ demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and raised slogans like ‘Prime Minister resign’, ‘Hooliganism will not work’ and ‘Give justice to students’. Shortly after the protest started, the police took Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and many other leaders into custody. Earlier, Lok Sabha members Charanjit Singh Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Shashikant Senthil and other leaders were also detained.
Jitendra Singh had come to talk to Rahul Gandhi
During the dharna, Congress leaders symbolically protested against the police action against the students by wearing handcuffs. Earlier, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh and Home Secretary Govind Mohan reached the spot and urged Rahul Gandhi to end the protest. Rahul Gandhi had appealed to those who wanted to get justice for the students to join the protest. He said that the attack on students is an attack on every Indian family and the government should take accountability in this matter.
Demand for resignation of PM-Home Minister
Rahul Gandhi demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister, saying that the government neither wants to take accountability for the incident nor is it allowing discussion on it in Parliament. Priyanka Gandhi said that the opposition wants to discuss this issue in the House, but it is not being allowed to speak. Referring to the police action against the students, he demanded the resignation of the Education Minister.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi reached Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and met the injured students. Congress Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, senior Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Randeep Surjewala, Pawan Kheda and many other MPs and leaders participated in the protest.
