Political rhetoric continues regarding the case of alleged theft of offerings in Ayodhya Ram temple. Meanwhile, International President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Alok Kumar termed the incident as unfortunate and demanded strict action against the culprits. When he was asked that if the accused of theft of Ram Mandir donations go to BJP for help, will VHP give them legal help? In response to this, Alok Kumar said, ‘There is no such proposal. There is nothing like this yet. What does hypothetical question mean? They are not even our workers, they were employees.
Only the court has the right to give verdict: VHP
Alok Kumar said, ‘Who has given us the right to give the verdict? This will be decided by the court. It is true that some people have been seen doing such acts in CCTV, this is proof. Some people have also confessed, so it seems that they must have done this, but in the Indian system, the final decision is taken by the court. Should a person have a media trial? Should someone’s reputation be tarnished just because elections are near?
In an interview given to news agency INS, he said, ‘The limits of decorum are being broken. Even big leaders are claiming that Rs 2,000 crore has been stolen. The police should call them once and ask what evidence they have. If there is no evidence, then making such statements and spreading rumors which can spread sensation, discontent and violence is an offense under Section 353 of BNS.
VHP’s statement regarding legal help for the accused
Ayodhya Bar Association has decided that no lawyer will fight the case of the 8 people accused in the Ram Temple offering case. On this, VHP President Alok Kumar said, ‘I found this a bit strange. I have no sympathy for those accused of donation theft; In fact, I see him in jail even in my dreams. After looking into this matter, the Supreme Court said that under Article 22 of the Constitution, legal aid is a fundamental right of every accused. On this basis, the court said that constitutionally, legally and morally the bar cannot pass such a proposal nor can any lawyer refuse to take the case.
Champat Rai’s resignation is commendable: VHP
Is Gopal Rao still working as the manager of Ram Temple or has he been removed from the post? In response to this question, he said, ‘I don’t even know whether any formal appointment was made or not, but the people whose names are coming forward will decide for themselves whether they should continue in their posts or not. When it was said that Champat Rai’s continuation in the post of General Secretary could affect the investigation, pressure could be put on witnesses or evidence could be tampered, he resigned within two days of the FIR being registered. This should be appreciated.
VHP’s statement regarding CBI investigation into the case
When asked about the SIT investigation in the Ram Mandir donation case, is it enough or is there a need for a CBI investigation? On this Alok Kumar said, ‘Police are investigating. We should rely on normal methods of investigation. Some people say that the BJP government will not allow a fair investigation to be conducted, hence it should be handed over to the CBI, but the central government also belongs to the BJP. The opposition parties which raise questions on UP Police, also raise questions on CBI. I believe that we should trust our agencies. The media and the entire Hindu society are keeping an eye on this investigation. If something goes wrong, it will come to light.
On extending the time of SIT investigation, he said, ‘It is not just a matter of investigating the crime. Suggesting solutions to prevent this from happening in the future is also part of the job. If he has asked for time to do this work well and with utmost care and he has asked for only 15 days, then I don’t think there is anything wrong in it.
