According to the report of Times of India, the Indian management and selectors have asked Harshit Rana to join the team before the third ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai. According to the report, Harshit will not join the team as a replacement for Hardik Pandya, but this decision has been taken so that Rana can adapt himself to the environment of international cricket. Due to knee surgery, Rana could not play in the T20 World Cup, he also did not play in IPL 2026.
The report quoted a BCCI source as saying, “The team management had given Harshit Rana a chance to join the team before the ODI series, but it was decided that he needs more practice at the Center of Excellence. He is bowling 9 to 10 overs every day.”

He further said, “Rana is also working hard on his batting. It is expected that on June 17, he will get the official approval to play from the COE, after which he will leave for Chennai.”
