You must have seen many advertisements of discounts available in hospitals. Sometimes on Doctor’s Day and sometimes on some special day. Hospitals keep bringing such offers for the convenience of their patients. But have you ever heard a doctor announcing a discount for sloganeering patients? In fact, Kolkata cardiologist PK Hazra issued a poster offering all his patients that if they chant Jai Shri Ram, they will be given a rebate of Rs 500 in consultant fees. This poster of his is now becoming increasingly viral on social media.

In fact, on Monday, three patients suffering from heart disease got a discount of Rs 500 per patient for chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in Kolkata. City-based intensive cardiologist Dr Prakash Kumar Hazra on Sunday afternoon had offered the discount to all patients who said “Jai Shri Ram” and also gave a QR code. Dr Kalra told The Telegraph Online, “I am inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. Jai Shri Ram is not a religious slogan. It is a political slogan. What I posted and released is absolutely right. I am just helping people.”

Doctor gave example of Bengal Congress leader
Dr Hazra cited the example of the great physician and veteran Congress leader Bidhan Chandra Roy, who served as the Chief Minister of Bengal from 26 January 1950 to his death on 1 July 1962. Dr. Roy was also the first President of the Cardiological Society of India. “Bidhan Babu was a great doctor and Congress leader who became the Chief Minister and he is also a doctor associated with CPM who says ‘Lal Salaam’. I have the right to express my political opinion, why can’t I say ‘Jai Shri Ram’?” Hazra asked while expressing his opinion.

Users said, it is absolutely wrong to make patients chant religious slogans
As soon as this matter went viral on social media, people started giving their reactions regarding it. One user wrote…Those who have problem in saying Jai Shri Ram should not seek treatment from Doctor Saheb. Another user wrote… Giving discounts to patients by making them chant religious slogans is a narrow mentality, the constitution of every country gives everyone the right to follow their own religion. So another user wrote…Jai Shri Ram is a slogan related to Lord Ram and it seems completely religious.
